It was the gift of chronic back and neck pain that brought Alison to her yoga practice 14 years ago. After the first class she knew she had found a powerful tool to return her body to its natural state of health. As her practice unfolded, she also found that her body would provide a roadmap to emotional, energetic, and spiritual healing as well.Inspired to share yoga with others and a desire to go deeper in her own practice, Alison completed her 200hr certification in 2006 at the acclaimed White Lotus Foundation with Ganga White and Tracey Rich. Following her passion to share the healing qualities of yoga with others, Alison has gone on to pursue her Professional Yoga Therapy certificate from Integrative Yoga Therapy with Joseph & Lillian Le Page and received her 500hr certificate in April of 2009. Over the past six years, Alison has seen the world as she has taught internationally as a professional swing dance instructor. In need of a more rooted lifestyle, she is excited to shift her focus toward offering dynamic yoga classes and working with individuals in a therapeutic capacity. Her perspective on yoga as a holistic experience inspires her to teach awareness of the physical, energetic, emotional and spiritual elements in her classes. Renee Gauthier
Vinyasa Flow, Saturdays 9am
Intertwined with my personal search for health, happiness and fulfillment, I have have always had a strong desire to inspire those things in others. Throughout my life I have found joy and well being by means of movement and somatic awareness. During my childhood and early adulthood I danced to express my creative energy. This began my love of understanding the body, and thereby cultivating greater understanding of the self. My passion for movement and healing arts lead me to become a yoga instructor and massage therapist. I have studied Iyengar, Anusara, vinyasa, and restorative yoga, and I currently teach a variety of yoga styles. To compliment my somatic arts modalities, I also have a master's degree in education with an emphasis in cross-cultural counseling. This combination of expressive movement, yogic mindfulness , and emotion focused counseling represent my integrated approach towards health and wellness.
Maya Montoya
Vinyasa Flow, Mondays, 5pm
My journey into mind-body awareness began as a gymnast at the age of 10. When I discovered yoga I was immediately drawn to the practice. Since then, yoga has become a constant in my life path. In 2007, I received my certification from the White Lotus Foundation in Santa Barbara, CA, studying Hatha Vinyasa Flow with Ganga White & Tracey Rich. I returned to White Lotus in 2009 for the Advanced Teacher Training. I have also studied with many renowned teachers including John Friend, Desiree Rumbaugh, Amy Ippoliti, Shiva Rea and Tias Little.
These practices have taught me to let go of self-judgment and to better handle stress. I believe yoga is the art of remembering our true nature. When we align with the flow of grace, we open our hearts with love to the present moment. It is my intention as an instructor of yoga to encourage a profound meditative experience by connecting one's breath with each movement.
I am also a Certified Massage Therapist specializing in Traditional Thailand Massage, Table Thai®, Thai Herbal Massage and Thai Foot Massage. I graduated from the International Professional School of Bodywork (IPSB) in San Diego, CA, and now teach in the Thai Massage classes offered at IPSB. The practice of Thai Massage allows me to provide a yoga experience to people who might not be directly interested in yoga. Visit Maya's website.Jennie Olson
Vinyasa Flow, Sunday 5pm
My first experiences with yoga were in my own living room. I stayed in my living room, ventured out trying Astanga for a bit and then went to CorePower Yoga, taking their teacher training which changed my life. What drew me to yoga initially was that experience of a highly meditative state. And while that started the journey, I became more focused on the physically powerful aspect of the asanas. I don't think this is unusual. I see it in the gyms and the rooms that I have had the honor of teaching in. And while building strength and stamina has helped me tremendously, my practice of yoga has taken me far beyond that. To get beyond the negative thought patterns affecting my life. To get beyond the outward appearances and illusions of the world. And to touch the divine within. To see the light within myself, so that I can see the light within the rest of the world. Her desire as a teacher is to not only learn from her students, but to inspire them to incorporate these eight petals of Yoga into their own lives. Her classes are infused with reflections on yogic teachings, balancing the physical with the spiritual aspects of the practice. Simone Ressner
Vinyasa Flow
Simone’s passion for yoga began in 2003, dabbling in different styles of Hatha, Bikram, Inyengar, Kundalini, and Acroyoga until she fell in love with Vinyasa’s flow technique of dancing with your breath. Like so many others, she turned to yoga at first for the physical benefits when she incurred low back injury. Over time, her appreciation for yoga grew deeper into a philosophy that applies to every aspect of her life. She is grateful for all the wonderful influence that was channeled through teachers, friends, and family. And following that gratitude and thirst to know more, she expanded her practice to teaching privately to help those with physical therapy needs and to guiding expecting mothers. In 2007, her trip to India deepened her respect for and practice of the ancient art of yoga. Simone’s classes offer a non-competitive and nourishing environment for students to explore their breath work, flexibility, and strength. She believes not only that yoga is healing for the body, but that yoga opens doors to lessons about acceptance and gratitude which allow you to experience the joy of life through being present. Yoga is so much more than poses - it's about breathing through moments, on the mat or off it and then thanking yourself for showing up. Simone is currently studying traditional Chinese Medicine with aims to further channel the ability to help and heal. |
Laura Downing
Vinyasa Flow, Mondays 12pm
One of my greatest joys is bringing the gifts of yoga to my students and watching them delve deeper into themselves to create their own physical, mental and spiritual healing and well-being. I strive to make my classes a balance of challenging strength building, graceful fluid movement, deep stretching and calming meditation. I emphasize the importance of staying focused on the relationship between the breath and body and maintaining a compassionate, loving attitude towards one's self. I ventured onto the yoga path in 1999 and haven't looked back since. I am constantly fascinated by the discoveries I make as I continue to explore and grow as both a student and teacher. Yoga has brought wondrous healing to my body, mind and spirit and I am thrilled to be able to share what I have learned. From a very early age my life has been driven by music and movement. I spent most of my childhood in ballet classes and performing on stage. In 1988 I moved from San Diego to New York City to pursue my dream of turning my passion for dance into a career. I had the good fortune of studying at the Joffrey Ballet School as well as performing as an apprentice to the Joffrey Ballet company. My career path led to many opportunities to work with various freelance choreographers and then to Ballet Hispanico of New York, a troupe fusing elements of modern and Latin dance. After retiring from my dance career I wanted to stay active and healthy so I decided to give yoga a try since it was becoming increasingly popular. From my very first sun salutations, I was hooked! I loved the rhythmic flow of Vinyasa Yoga and the emphasis on synchronizing movement to the breath. I floated out of class feeling calm, blissful, aware and alive. As I continued to practice I began noticing not only the physical changes of healing years of overuse from my dance training, but subtle mental and emotional shifts as well. Shifts that brought me closer to the truth of who I really am, the truth of my spirit. I enrolled in an 8-month long teacher training course, studying all aspects of yoga with a variety of gifted mentors and began teaching in 2002. I attend numerous workshops and trainings with my Guru, Shiva Rea, to continuously expand my knowledge and skill as an instructor. |
Stephanie Pafford
Vinyasa "Power Hour" Wednesdays 6am
Stephanie Pafford received her trainings with Natures Whispers School of Yoga. As a certified yoga instructor (hatha & restorative), Stephanie is fortunate enough that yoga permeates her life. While studying with Jolie Cash she received her best advice, “just practice.” Whenever life through emotions, relationships, self exploration is questioned the truths for Stephanie lie in practice through asanas, meditation, pranayam, and journaling. This is her practice. In her classes Stephanie always says that, “practice moves with us off our mats keeping us humble, loving, and kind which transcends through our life.” She communicates this through her teachings, offering a space to everyone that walks through the door, park, or into her seminars. Yoga can heal, support, and nurture a person and if during Stephanie’s class an individual feels “something” she hopes to encourage you to take the time to recognize that “home feeling, that comfort, that something you just can’t put a word to yet…” and begin to explore this amazing new path and open to all possibilities that are for you. She continues her search for more knowledge in yoga and philosophy through regular trainings, seminars, and workshops.Christopher Marciello
Meditation, 2nd & 4th Sundays 6:30pm
Christopher’s formal Vipassana meditation training began with Noah Levine, Buddhist teacher, author and founder of Dharma Punx, after close to a decade of independent study and practice. Originally having come to meditation by readings of traditional as well as modern Zen and Ch’an teachers, Vipassana, or Insight mediation, was the first time that Christopher came upon a system of meditation that explained clearly and intellectually the philosophies and technical dynamics of cultivating a practice. In addition to studying directly with Noah for two years, Christopher has sat with teachers such as, Thannissaro Bhikku, Sharon Salzburg, Robert A. Johnson and Thich Nhat Hanh. Christopher is also a Yogasana instructor having trained under the tutelage of Jolie Cash and Anne Nowell. Christopher defines himself as a father, loves to climb and surf, eats seaweed ricecakes and genuinely believes in the transformative abilities of a yogasana and meditation practice. |

Yoga is the practice of union between the body, mind, spirit and the infinite.
Angela inadvertently walked into a Nia class three years ago, and fell in immediate and immense love with this joyful movement practice combining martial arts, dance arts, and healing arts to create a sixty minute dynamic cardiovascular workout. First an avid student and three months later a licensed teacher, Angela finds Nia to be a great method for building endurance, increasing strength, improving flexibility, exploring agility, letting go, and expressing joy. A physicist by day, Angela experiences Nia as a scientific practice, as Nia relates matter and motion through our bodies’ movements. In addition to teaching Nia, Angela is a long-time yoga practitioner, having trained with Shiva Rea, Ana Forest, Baron Baptiste, and Seane Corn. As such, Angela’s Nia classes emphasize the structure and flow of yoga that allow us to increase our edge gently and safely. Angela is also an avid outdoor enthusiast, engaging in rock climbing, long-distance running, surfing, mountain biking, rafting, and backpacking. Angela incoporates the principles of Nia so that athletic prowess in any endeavor may be expanded. Above all, Angela’s primary focus with Nia is to have fun and experience life through laughter, so any body of any age and any experience level is encouraged to share in the joys of Nia.
Leora is a Certified Nia Black Belt who brings passion and precision and inspires playfulness, grounding, and athleticism. Leora has been teaching the Nia Technique since 2003, and teaches a classic seven-cycle class in a way accessible to newcomers and experienced movers alike. Nia ignited Leora's dancer who had gravitated toward 1980's aerobics, running, weight training and who had even completed a marathon and triathlon. Leora has over 20 years of dance training, and performance. Leora noticed her Nia practice spilled outside of the studio preparing her for life, not performance, an experience she describes as being a "warrior dancer" where dance and athleticism coincide.
Susan is certified as a hatha yoga instructor and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapist. She returned to yoga in 1997 during a time of complete physical and emotional breakdown. She practiced, and she healed. So she hung up her business suits in favor of her sticky mat and dedicated herself to helping others improve their lives on all levels. Her personal attention and gentle adjustments help students find the ease and artistry of each pose, allowing breath to guide them into a deeper, more authentic practice, and a clearer awareness of themselves. Her classes are ideal for new and continuing students who want to improve more than just their bodies. To learn more about her ecclectic style which she calls Prana Yoga, visit
